Oral Hygiene
At Blue Heron, we view our patients’ dental health as an important factor in their overall good health. In addition to providing preventive cleanings, cavity checks and cancer screening exams, we take great care in educating our patients on the connection between periodontal disease and overall cardiac health. The communication between our patients, our all-female staff of hygienists, and Dr. Maze, is very important to us. It continues to be our desire to teach patients how to practice good oral hygiene at home.

Periodontal Health
Periodontal (gum) disease’s main cause is bacterial plaque; a colorless, sticky film that is constantly forming on your teeth and may cause gingivitis or periodontitis. Very recent research has shown a strong link between gum disease and both cardiac disease and stroke. One theory is that oral bacteria can affect the heart after entering the bloodstream, attaching to fatty plaques in the coronary artaiers, then, contribute to clot formation. Researchers have found that people with periodontal disease are almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery disease as people without periodontal disease. For this reason, we take our role as your dental provider very seriously, knowing that your overall good heath depends on it.

Sealants
Sealants are a highly effective way of protecting the biting surface of the teeth from decay. Our simple procedure involves “painting” a tooth-colored acrylic onto the tooth surface to seal the deepest gooves where cavities often start.

Tooth Restoration
We use a beautiful, tooth colored material for fillings. Also, we use a state-of-the-art method of providing you with excellent fitting crowns which are natural in appearance and can be done at one visit!

Dr. Maze also specializes in partial and full dentures, as well as restoring dental implants. Implants keep your bone from resorbing and allow for the maintenance of remaining bone structure where a tooth is missing. A beautiful, natural looking crown is then placed on top of the implant.
