Preventative/General Dentistry

At Blue Heron Dentistry, we believe that oral health is the gateway to overall health.

We offer a full array of preventive, restorative and cosmetic dentistry services to help you feel and look your best. Healthy teeth and gums make it easy to eat a variety of textured, nutritious foods which are vital to attaining and maintaining overall health.

The mouth can also act as an early warning system to alert you to other concerns within the body. Periodontal disease indicates a high presence of bacteria, which is a symptom associated with other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis and other chronic issues. Ask about oral health screenings which can help identify potential health risks.

Preventive Dental Services:

  • Clinical Hygiene Appointment a minimum of two times per year
  • Periodic Oral Exam to detect and prevent early pathogens

Preventative Resin Restoration (PRR)

Paint Away Decay

Preventative Restoration Resin (sealants) is a highly effective way of protecting the biting surface of the teeth from decay. Our simple procedure involves “painting” a tooth-colored acrylic onto the tooth surface to seal the deepest grooves where cavities often start.

Fillings & Restorations

Tooth-Colored Fillings

We use beautiful, hard ceramic and composite materials which give patients a better, more stable, tooth-colored filling. After a tooth-colored filling has been completed, you won’t even notice there’s a filling on that tooth.

Reduced Radiation X-Rays

Blue Heron Dentistry uses high-tech digital X-Rays that are tied into a state-of-the-art computer system. Images instantly appear on a high definition flat screen monitor giving unparalleled clarity and detail. Using digital X-Rays drastically cuts down the amount of radiation exposure and saves time. Because of digital technology, we no longer have to rely on chemicals for X-Ray processing and the use of traditional X-Ray films.

Partial/Full Dentures and Dental Implants

Dr. Maze also specializes in partial and full dentures, as well as restoring dental implants. Implants keep your bone from resorbing and allow for the maintenance of remaining bone structure where a tooth is missing. A beautiful, natural looking crown is then placed on top of the abutment/implant. Blue Heron Dentistry also utilizes professional offsite laboratories for many other treatment options (i.e., gold restorations).

Implant Supported Crowns

“Replacement Teeth” Look, Feel and Function Like Natural Teeth

Implant supported crowns are more of a prosthetic procedure where full sections of teeth that are missing need to be reconstructed. Implants are titanium screws that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jawbone. These implants are placed into the bone so that a prosthetic crown or prosthesis (the visible part of your tooth) can be firmly attached.

Blue Heron Dentistry’s technology in implant dentistry makes it possible to provide replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth.

Why teeth need dental crowns

A dentist might recommend placing a dental crown for a variety of reasons but, in general, most of these reasons will usually fall within one of the following basic categories:

  • To restore a tooth to its original shape
  • To strengthen a tooth
  • To improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth
  • To improve a damaged or broken tooth
  • Needed after a root canal

Fixed Bridges

Custom-made Tooth/Teeth Permanently Fill a Gap

A dental bridge (or pontic) is a custom-made false tooth or teeth that is permanently placed between two healthy teeth to fill in the gap. The bridge is held by porcelain crowns placed on the healthy teeth on each side of the space to be filled. This is known as a fixed bridge. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out of your mouth as you might do with removable partial dentures.

Who is a candidate for dental bridges?

If you have missing teeth and have good oral hygiene practices, you should discuss this procedure with Dr. Maze. If oral spaces are left unfilled, this may cause the surrounding teeth to drift out of position. Additionally, spaces from missing teeth can cause your other teeth and your gums to become far more susceptible to tooth decay and gum disease.

Replacements for Missing Teeth

Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. While dentures take some getting used to, and will never feel exactly the same as one’s natural teeth, today’s dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.

There are two main types of dentures: full and partial. Dr. Maze will help you choose the type of prosthesis that’s best for you based on whether some, or all of your teeth are going to be replaced and the cost involved.

How Dentures Work

With full dentures, a flesh-colored acrylic base fits over your gums. The base of the upper denture covers the palate (the roof of your mouth), while the lower denture is shaped like a horseshoe to accommodate your tongue. A partial denture rests on a metal framework that attaches to your natural teeth. Sometimes crowns are placed on some of your natural teeth and serve as anchors for the denture. Partial dentures offer a removable alternative to bridges.

Onlays

Natural-looking Restorations to Mildly Damaged or Decayed Teeth

Dental onlays are restorations used to restore posterior teeth that have a mild to moderate amount of decay. They can also be used to restore teeth that are cracked or fractured if the damage is not severe enough to require a dental crown. Onlays are usually made from porcelain or gold. Because they can be created from tooth-colored materials, onlays are often used to replace metal fillings for patients who desire a natural looking appearance.

Dental onlays are used to treat teeth that have decay or damage lying within their indented top surfaces. Only treatment preserves tooth structure and can also be used to replace old or damaged metal fillings. Onlay recommendation depends on the size and severity of the tooth.

I was terrified to go back to a dentist after my last experience. Dr Heather and her assistant were so nice. And explained everything. I was actually excited to go back and get my procedure done. Finally. Thank you.
